In Switzerland, the well-known "O-to-O rule" applies: From October to Easter you should drive with winter tires. This rule of thumb has proven itself over years and provides good guidance.

Why Winter Tires Are Important

Winter tires offer significantly better grip than summer tires at temperatures below 7°C. This is due to:

• Special rubber compound: Stays elastic even in cold weather
• Sipes in the tread: Interlock with snow and ice
• Deeper tread: Better water drainage

Legal Regulations in Switzerland

There is no general winter tire requirement in Switzerland. But beware: Anyone who drives with unsuitable tires in winter conditions and causes an accident must expect partial liability.
