# Removing Paint Scratches: Smart Repair?

## Identifying Scratch Types

Not every scratch is the same. We distinguish between:

### 1\. Surface Scratches (Clear Coat)

These scratches are only in the clear coat and cannot be felt with your fingernail. **Solution**: Polishing is often enough.

### 2\. Deep Scratches (Base Coat)

The scratch goes through the clear coat to the color layer. **Solution**: Smart-Repair or partial painting.

### 3\. Scratches to the Metal

A complete painting of the affected area is necessary to prevent rust.
